A woman’s health should be empowering.

Conditions I Treat Holistically

  • Women's Health & Hormones

I treat women as multi-symptom, multi-organ individuals while honoring the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of their healthcare. Common concerns are primary and secondary infertility, peri-menopause or menopause, endometriosis, PCOS, menstrual irregularities, PMS and PMDD.

I use natural medicine, lifestyle changes, botanicals, supplements, supportive care and also integrate conventional treatments to care for patients. Other common endocrine disorders include high or low functioning thyroid linked to appetite, weight control, energy dysfunction, adrenal fatigue, blood sugar imbalances such as diabetes and sleep/mood disorders.

  • Holistic Dermatology

The skin is your body’s largest and fastest growing organ of the body. External breakouts, rashes, and flare-ups of the surface epidermis are typically an external manifestation of inflammation inside in the body. Common conditions include acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, sun spots, rough and uneven skin texture, itching, redness, and loss of elasticity.

Through proper diet and support of the principal organs of detoxification, particularly the liver and kidneys, skin conditions can clear up by treating imbalances within.

  • Digestive Issues

The digestive tract is an essential component of the body's immune system. I treat the digestive system as an organ system, optimizing its function by eliminating foods sensitivities, strengthening the mucosa and getting rid of pathogenic bacteria.

The intestine possesses the most significant mass of lymphoid tissue in the human body. Naturopaths believe the root cause of disease begins with an imbalance in the digestive system.

I treat digestive ailments such as SIBO, Leaky Gut, Ulcerative Colitis, Chron’s Disease, Celiac, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

  • Labs & Testing

For a deeper analysis of the body's complex ecosystem, I use advanced diagnostic testing not always available in conventional medicine practices.

I focus on optimal lab values, which are more narrow than the standard lab values used in biomedicine. By catching these markers early on, I have a better chance at reversing or stopping disease progression altogether.

Some of the tests that I will order include complete blood panels, GI Map/stool testing, US Biotek/food sensitivities, Dutch Hormone Analysis, SIBO breath test, all forms of thyroid, specific nutrients like B12, ferritin and iron, or vitamin D, omega 3 fatty acids, mold markers, autoimmune markers, comprehensive cardiovascular testing, and through serum.

  • Nutrition & Diet Consults

My approach to holistic nutrition and healing is from a whole-person perspective. Using nutritional education as a primary tool, holistic nutrition professionals emphasize the building of health by approaching each person as a unique individual.

Advising individuals in holistic nutrition teaches patients how to improve their diet, lifestyle and attitude to promote and empower them to make good decisions. I educate people of the benefits of whole foods by utilizing personalized nutritional markers via functional medicine testing and identifying food sensitives causing inflammation in the body. With more education and practical strategies, we discuss nutrient optimization through targeted supplements and diet modifications.

  • PCOS

Polycystic ovaries, commonly referred to as PCOS, is a syndrome affecting one in every ten women of child-bearing ages. PCOS can be difficult to treat, there are four sub types of PCOS, with a wide range of symptoms including a combination of polycystic ovaries, (small cysts on the ovaries), high Androgens (Testosterone and DHEA-S), insulin resistance, and irregular menses.

Severe complications of PCOS can include type 2 diabetes, infertility, and central abdominal obesity. Conventional treatment of PCOS involves taking medications like Metformin to lower blood sugars, and synthetic birth control to shut down the bodies natural production of hormones to regulate unwanted side effects of high testosterone such as acne, facial hair, and irregular menses.

The naturopathic approach to PCOS is to support women's bodies by creating an environment for change. We utilize diet, decrease estrogen dominance, help your liver and your gut detoxify, and prescribe herbs and supplements to support the different phases on their menstrual cycles.

While embracing a holistic approach to treatment, many women go on to having healthy menstrual cycles and improved reproductive health, as well as decreasing body mass and index and reducing symptoms of androgen excess.

“ After years and years of struggling with many hormone issues, I decided I needed to explore more options and find a Naturopath doctor. From our first Zoom appointment, I can say without a doubt Dr. Elizabeth McElligott has changed my life. She truly has a passion to help and I am forever grateful. It was the first time I felt heard with all my concerns. After some initial testing and just a few months of specific supplements to help my PCOS and food sensitivities, I started to see changes and felt better every day. I now have energy through the roof, I am so much more happy and my mood has improved overall, I sleep amazing now and I’m down almost 30lbs after 5 months. Because Dr. McElligott really took the time to understand my concerns she was able to help me. She is beyond talented and I recommend her to everyone I talk to!”
